Best iOS Games January 2020

1. iPhone game of the month: Pascal’s Wager

Most of the popular iOS games are not that difficult, so as not to scare players. It should be fun of course. The new game Pascal’s Wager does not do that. This is a challenge that you do not just start.

You may be familiar with FromSoftware’s games for PC and game consoles. Think Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne. These are tricky games, in which there can be a scary monster around every corner that will kill you with a few blows. And then you have to replay quite a bit. The power of these games is that you can achieve things that you never thought possible, as long as you persevere. You will not only overcome the difficult bosses, but also yourself.

Pascal’s Wager does not hide its inspiration. In fact, many elements have been copied directly from FromSoftware’s games. And that in a game with a clearly much lower budget.

Challenge

But if you put that aside for a moment, Pascal’s Wager gives you a very extensive game for iOS. One that you can put in for tens of hours and with which you are presented with a considerable challenge. It is mainly the voice actors and the camera work that leave the game a bit behind, but otherwise there is a lot to enjoy.

The most important thing for a game inspired by Dark Souls is that the action works, and that’s okay. The virtual buttons on the screen are not ideal for, for example, the difficult boss fights, but that can be solved by connecting a controller.

In Pascal’s Wager you will often die, but if you persevere you will be richly rewarded. With countless different routes, secrets, extra assignments and more, this is a very complete game.

2. The White Door

The new game from Dutch studio Rusty Lake lets players puzzle again, but in a different way than you are used to. You wake up in a mental institution. There you have a schedule that you have to stick to.

Think of brushing your teeth, eating and sleeping. However, every day is just a little bit different. Once you fall asleep, you learn more about main character Robert Hill and his past. The White Door is a fascinating game, which is a lot easier than the previous work of the game maker.

3. No Way Home (Apple Arcade)

In this Apple Arcade game you are a small spaceship in a dangerous world. You take missions from questionable characters and head out. You do that while shooting, while taking into account the temperature of your ship, but of course also your shield and life points. By collecting items you can upgrade your ship with new weapons, better armor and more. That way no one is safe from you.

4. Tetris

There’s a new Tetris app in the App Store just after EA’s previous Tetris game was discontinued. It is a fairly bare-bones version of the well-known puzzle game, but the app will be expanded with new functions in the future. You can play the game for free, but then you will be bothered with all kinds of advertisements. You can remove it by spending 5.49 euros once.

5. Unity

Unitied is a nice puzzle game, in which your goal is to bring blocks in the field to their goal. You can only do this by moving all the blocks to one side at the same time. Some blocks can’t reach their goal without help, so you have to use the different parts wisely to complete the levels.
