iPad gets extensive multitasking with windows, menu bar and buttons

New from iPados 26

iPados 26 introduces the biggest innovation ever in the field of multitasking for the iPad. The most important addition is support for windows. You can open apps in individual windows that you can release, enlarge, reduce and even overlap, similar to macOS.

In previous versions of iPados this was already possible with Stage Manager, but this was a cumbersome way of working and the functionality was limited. In addition, iPados also adds a menu bar and extra buttons so that multitasking is really possible on an iPad.

Multitasking on an iPad

In the past, Apple has often tried to make multitasking on an iPad possible. For example, options such as Split View, Slide Over and Stage Manager were introduced, but every time it turned out not to be a resounding success. From iPados 26 you can multitask on an iPad as you expect it with windows, menu bar and buttons. Below we list the options for you.

Intuitive Windows System

iPados 26 contains powerful new features to manage app windows and change the window, while everything still works just as quickly and easily as you are used to. In the new windows system you can now completely enlarge or reduce app windows, put them exactly in the desired location and even open several windows at the same time.

iPad gets extensive multitasking with windows, menu bar and buttons

Adjusting windows is very easy. Once you have displayed the App Filling, you can adjust the window by wiping in from the lower right corner to change the window. You can then change the position on the screen. It is of course possible to have several windows overlap.

Tile display

If desired, you can use a tile view. This means that iPados automatically adjusts the size of your window based on tiles on the screen with a maximum of four. Drag a window to the edge of the screen to secure it automatically to that position. You can then manually adjust the size of the tiles if desired.

The tile view replaces Split View and Slide, which immediately means the end for both functions. This is not very strange because the tiles in principle achieve the same effect.

Traffic light buttons

The famous red, yellow and green buttons from macOS are now also present on the iPad. With these traffic light buttons you can quickly close your windows (red), minimize (yellow) or maximize (green). By holding down the buttons you can immediately place an app in a tile view.

Exposé function

By wiping up from the bottom and then you get an overview of all active windows, similar to the exposé/mission control function on the Mac. This makes it easier to switch quickly between windows. Then tap a window to only display it on the screen. You can also close all active windows in this road.

Menu bar

Via the menu bar you can quickly reach the available commands, settings and options in an app. You just have to swipe down from the top of the display or the cursor up. If you are looking for a specific feature or related tips, the search function offers a solution. And developers can also adjust the menu bar for their apps.

Also available on external screens

The above innovations are not only available on the iPad itself, but also when you have connected the iPad to an external screen. This allows you to fully use the iPad as a computer.

Close windows

If you have already increased or reduced an app, it will get exactly the same size and position when you open the app again. You can repair this with the green button or by re -adjusting the size of the window.

By sweeping up from the bottom of the screen, the home screen is displayed, do this again to close all windows and to focus on one app.

Choice of three multitasking options

As an iPad user you have the choice between three options that you can set as standard on the iPad. This way you can always use screen -filling apps, internship manager or the new apps in windows. To do this, go to Settings â–¸ Multitasking and gestures â–¸ Choose a desired multitasking. You can also switch on the automatic closing of windows via the designated button.
