iPad Pro 2024 expectations
The iPad Pro 2022 is already a year old, which is an eternity in tech terms. It is therefore not surprising that Apple is already working on a successor, which should be in stores in the spring of 2024. But what can you actually improve on a tablet that has already overtaken all the competition?
A surprising number, if current rumors are to be believed. The new iPad Pro 2024 is significantly improved in five areas, from the screen to the camera, and from the chip to the accessories. You need to know this.
1. Better and bigger screen
The iPad Pro 2024 will be the first iPad ever to have an OLED screen. This allows for much better contrast, a higher maximum brightness, and even always-on functionality. The 11-inch iPad Pro in particular will benefit from this, as it still has a normal LCD. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro has a mini LED screen, where the contrast and brightness have also been significantly improved.
The size of the screen also changes. The sizes are currently 11 and 12.9 inches, but due to thinner screen bezels and a slightly adjusted design, they are now 11.1 and 13 inches. A subtle difference, but you will probably notice it!
2. Improved cameras
The camera of the iPad Pro has hardly been tinkered with since 2020, so it is time for an upgrade. Maybe the iPad Pro will finally get an (old) iPhone camera, so you can take really professional photos with it. That is not yet known, but it is clear that there will be better cameras in the iPad.
The selfie camera will also probably be overhauled, with the same autofocus function that has been on the iPhone since the iPhone 14. This allows you to take much sharper selfies.
3. Fast M3 chip
The iPad Pro is by far the fastest iPad, because it is the only model with a full-fledged M2 chip on board. But it is now even faster thanks to the M3 chip. This is made using a different process, which means that many more transistors fit on the chip. The end result: a faster chip with the same power consumption, which can run even better games and more advanced apps.
4. New connections
The iPad Pro has had a magnetic Smart Connector on the back since 2018, with three pins. You can use this, for example, to connect a Magic Keyboard. On the iPad Pro 2024, this connection will disappear and a new connection will be added on the sides of the iPad. But what exactly you can do with it is still unknown.
The rear now offers the option to charge your iPad wirelessly. This would be incorporated into a larger Apple logo, with support for MagSafe and ‘reverse charging’. In other words: if you place an iPhone on it, you can also charge it.
5. Better accessories
Both the Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil will be upgraded at the same time with the iPad Pro 2024. The new Magic Keyboard would now have an aluminum frame, just like the keyboard of a MacBook. And the new Apple Pencil (3 or Pro) has magnetic tips in different shapes that you can easily replace.
