iPadOS 18 pulled for iPad Pro with M4 chip, could crash iPad

Since this week, you can download and install all kinds of new software updates on your Apple devices. Apple also released iPadOS 18 earlier this week, but the update did not go well for everyone. For example, several iPad Pro users report that their iPad crashed while installing the update.

The problem affects the iPad Pro with M4 chip that was released last May. Because the software update causes problems, Apple has pulled the update.

iPadOS 18 causes problems

Do you own an 11-inch iPad Pro with M4 chip or a 13-inch iPad Pro with M4 chip? Then it is no longer possible to update your iPad to iPadOS 18. Several users have reported problems with the update and Apple has decided to pull the update.

Downloading iPadOS 18 went without too many problems and the installation could be started fine. Unfortunately, some users experience problems during the installation. The result, a black screen and an iPad that no longer turns on.

Cause unknown

Not all iPad Pro owners have experienced this issue. For example, we were able to update our iPad Pro with M4 chip without any problems. The cause of this issue is still unknown. On Reddit is available to read that a user had first installed iPadOS 17.7 and only then iPadOS 18. Whether there was an error between these two updates is not yet known.

Apple has on MacRumors let us know the following: “We have temporarily removed the iPadOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pro models while we work to resolve an issue impacting a small number of devices.”

iPadOS 18.0.1

Most likely, Apple will release iPadOS 18.0. 1 as soon as possible or a specific update only for the latest generation iPad Pro to fix the issue and allow users to update their tablet. Other iPad models do not have any issues updating to iPadOS 18.
