‘iPhone 16 Pro will have an ultra-wide-angle lens with 48 megapixels’

We are learning more and more about the iPhone 16 Pro and the camera seems to be getting another major update this year. This is what you need to know about the ultra-wide-angle lens of the iPhone 16 Pro.

iPhone 16 Pro gets new 48-megapixel camera

We still have to wait a while for the iPhone 16 Pro, but new rumors have surfaced about the phone. According to the usually reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 16 Pro will have an ultra-wide-angle lens with 48 megapixels. Now the ultra-wide-angle lens is still a 12-megapixel camera, just like the telephoto lens of the iPhone 15. With the iPhone 16 Pro we see two 48-megapixel cameras.

With the iPhone 14 Pro (Max), Apple introduced a standard wide-angle lens with 48 megapixels for the first time. We saw the same camera on the entire iPhone 15 series this year, including the iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus. According to Kuo, Apple is going one step further with the iPhone 16 Pro, because the ultra-wide-angle lens will also receive a significant improvement.

Take better photos in low light

On the iPhone 16, the ultra-wide-angle lens becomes a 48-megapixel camera, which provides much nicer photos and videos. This camera will only come to the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max. With the ‘normal’ iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus, Apple is sticking to the 12-megapixel camera with the ultra-wide-angle lens. That camera will probably only receive an update with the iPhone 17.

According to Kuo, another advantage of the new ultra-wide-angle lens is that the iPhone 16 Pro can take better photos in low light. The camera has a sensor that is more sensitive to light. This collects more light, which makes a big difference when you shoot a photo or video in a dark environment. When you take a photo in the evening or at night, you still see a relatively light image.

New camera almost certainly

Rumors previously predicted that the ultra-wide-angle lens of the iPhone 16 Pro (Max) has 48 megapixels. Now that Kuo also reports that the camera is getting an update, it seems almost certain that we will indeed see another 48-megapixel camera. In addition, Kuo assumes that the new tetraprism lens of the iPhone 15 Pro Max will come to both the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max this year.

This makes the phones equal again in terms of cameras, unlike the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max. This probably has to do with the housing of the device, as the iPhone 16 Pro is much larger. This reportedly leaves enough room for the tetraprysal lens. Do you want to know more about the iPhone 16? Then read here what you can expect from the next iPhone!
