Owners of an iPhone want to switch to a new device faster. But why do they buy a new device?
iPhone is shorter: users want to switch so quickly
According to a Cirp study (Consumer Intelligence Research Partners), iPhone owners are buying a new device faster and faster. In December 2024, 36 percent of the iPhone owners who switched had their iPhone two years or shorter. A year earlier this was still 31 percent.
That is not the only thing that is going on. Because even with the users who keep their iPhone longer you can see a decrease. For example, the number of users who have their iPhone have been down to 33 percent for three years or more.
This shift is quite striking. Because in previous years, iPhone owners did for longer with their smartphone. CIRP says that the amount of iPhone owners who upgrade after two years is back to the 2020 level.
According to CIRP, that a new iPhone is now being switched faster. Special promotions from mobile providers and new functions are probably one of the causes that they switch faster. The arrival of Apple Intelligence on the new iPhones will also have contributed to this.
Apple recently also announced their quarterly figures. And it showed that the sale of iPhones did suffer something. That could mean that the composition of iPhone owners is changing.
The iPhone owners who quickly upgrade are probably the fanatic Apple fans. That group would like to have the newest device. But there is also a group of iPhone owners who do not always have to have the newest of the newest and that group now waits even longer before they upgrade.
