Did you know that there are many more widgets for your iPhone than you get with iOS 16 as standard? For example, with a certain widget you can immediately see the news from your favorite website, without having to open the page in Safari first. Which these and more useful widgets are, we’ll show you in this iPhone tips of the week!

All widgets below are free. Some do have a paid version for specific functions to use or you have to click away an advertisement here and there.

1. Widget Web

Do you have some favorite websites that you visit every day? Then this is the widget for you! With this widget you can view a website directly on your home screen. And the great thing is: the websites in the widget are automatically updated. With the free version this happens once a day, but with the paid version this can be done every 15 minutes.

Launch the app and tap ‘Add web page’. Enter the address of the website at ‘URL page’ and tap ‘Go’. Then put the website’s details in the box of the widget. You can zoom in and out of the website as desired to get exactly the desired data in the frame.

You can then customize the style of the widget and data. Did you do that once? Then you put the widget on your home screen, just like any other widget.

2. Countdown app & widget

You can put important appointments in your calendar, but sometimes you forget to look. For really special occasions that you should not forget, the widget from these iPhone tips offers a solution. Have an important party coming up? Or maybe the sale or sale of your house? Then put a countdown timer on your home screen with this widget. And it also looks nice!

Start the app and choose ‘Add event’. Name your countdown widget and customize the date and time. You can then change the colors, icons and the start date as desired. Then tap on ‘Done’ and place the widget on your home screen.

3. Photo album (Photo widget)

With the standard widgets on your iPhone you can already show a photo widget on your home screen. Unfortunately, it is quite limited. It is quite difficult to put specific photos in this widget.

The widget Photo album makes it a lot easier. You can immediately choose which photos you want to show in the widget!

Launch the app and click on the plus sign at the bottom right. Tap ‘Add Photo’ and select the photos you want to use. Tap Add > Save. Customize the name of your album by tapping the title. Add the widget to your home screen. Adjust the widget by holding down your finger on the widget and choosing ‘Edit widget’. Tap on ‘Choose album’ and choose the album you just set up.

Add or customize widgets on your iPhone

To use the above widgets from these iPhone tips, you must first install the app from the App Store. After that, you have to launch the app once and set up the widget. To add the widgets to your home screen of your iPhone or iPad, follow the steps below.

  • Press and hold your finger on an empty spot until the apps start to wiggle;
  • Press the button with the plus sign (top left);
  • From the list, tap the widget you want to place or type the name of the app in the search box;
  • Once you’ve opened the widget, choose the look you want and tap “Add Widget”;
  • Drag the widget to where you want it and tap Done.
