1. Enable the ‘Level’ option

We’ll start these iPhone tips with an iOS 17 trick for better photo compositions. Chances are you already have the ‘Grid’ option enabled, but with the arrival of iOS 17 there’s also a handy tool for a straight horizon. That is the ‘Level’ function and you can enable it as follows:

Enable level on iPhone

  2. Scroll down and tap ‘Camera’;

From now on, when taking photographs, you will see a line on the screen that works like a spirit level. If you hold your iPhone straight, the line will turn yellow.

2. Set the main camera resolution to 48 MP

If you have an iPhone 15 or an iPhone 14 Pro (Max), you can also take 48 megapixel photos. You will then have to enable that option. This is how you do it:

  • Open the Settings app;
  • Scroll down and tap ‘Camera’;
  • Tap ‘File structures’;
  • Enable the ‘Resolution Control’ (iPhone 15) or ‘ProRAW & Resolution Control’ (iPhone 14 Pro (Max)) option.

Via the file format button that you see at the top right of the screen when you have opened the camera, you can now choose RAW MAX (iPhone 14 Pro (Max)) and HEIF MAX (iPhone 14 Pro (Max) and iPhone 15) to shoot with 48 megapixels. photographing.

3. Lock Notes with Face ID

Number three of these iPhone tips will help you keep important notes to yourself. Because everything you put in the Notes app is of course only intended for your eyes. That’s why it’s nice that Apple has the option to lock your notes with Face ID.

The function has been in iOS for some time, but remains extremely useful to use. The option is often immediately offered the first time you create a note after installing iOS 17. You can manually set it afterwards as follows:

  • Open the Notes app;
  • Create a new note or open an existing one;
  • Tap the three dots at the top right and choose ‘Lock’;
  • Tap the open padlock at the top of the screen.

You may need to enter your passcode the first time to activate Face ID. You can also protect existing notes by pressing and holding your finger on the note in the overview and then immediately choosing ‘Lock note’.

4. Enable Communications Security

It is best to activate communication safety immediately if your children ever use your iPhone. If the option is enabled, nude photos will be automatically blurred. To enable it, proceed as follows:

  • Open the Settings app;
  • Tap ‘Screen Time’ (haven’t activated Screen Time yet? Do that first);
  • Tap ‘Communication Safety’;
  • Set the switch behind ‘Check for sensitive photos’ to green.

You can choose to share diagnostic and usage data with Apple, but that is not necessary. The function is automatically enabled on iPhones owned by young people up to the age of 16.

5. Enable the Screen distance feature

Number five of these iPhone tips also covers a feature that can be especially useful for younger users. Young people look at their iPhones for far too long and often from far too close.

This may result in myopia. With the Screen Distance function you automatically set a warning, so that you can give your eyes a rest in time. Setup goes like this:

  • Open the Settings app;
  • Tap ‘Screen Time’;
  • Tap ‘Screen distance’;
  • Set the switch behind ‘Screen distance’ to green.

Do you get a warning too often and do you find it annoying? Then you are supposed to adjust your viewing behavior, but you can of course also disable the function in the same way.

6. Clean up verification codes automatically

Before you know it, your mailbox or message inbox will be full of verification codes that you no longer need. With the arrival of iOS 17, simply enable them to be cleared automatically! You do this as follows:

  • Open the Settings app;
  • Tap ‘Passwords’ and then ‘Password Options’;
  • Under VERIFICATION CODES, set the ‘Automatic cleanup’ option to green.

The verification codes are now automatically removed from Messages and Mail. If you use other programs, it will unfortunately not work.
