Is biotechnology an invention of man?

Answer

Biotechnology is indeed an invention of man. The word says it all. After all, it is a combination of ‘bio’ with ‘technology’. And in the technology is the human factor. Man is the inventor of technology and that is one of the main characteristics that distinguishes people from other creatures. Biotechnology uses biological processes, but it is the use of those biological processes for certain applications that makes the difference. We have not invented how yeasts convert sugars into carbon dioxide, but we have discovered how we can use that biological process for baking bread, for example. Baking bread and fermenting beer are examples of traditional biotechnology. Today we also have modern biotechnology, which uses, among other things, genetic modification as a technique to influence biological processes. In this, the influence of man as a factor is even greater, and there is even more talk of human inventions.
