I’ve heard a few times about a planet that would enter our solar system. This planet would have been known by the Sumerian people. Is this planet a myth or is it really coming?
Answer
Dear Bart,
The short answer to your question: this planet is a myth and is not coming.
The long answer: The hypothetical planet Nibiru is an object proposed by author Zecharia Sitchin, a proponent of the theory that humans descended from itinerant alien astronauts who left us here. In his work he involves Sumerian culture and other mythologies. According to Sitchin, Nibiru is a planet in our solar system, with an elliptical orbit that brings the object close to us once every 3,600 years. According to him, the earth itself was created by the collision of this object with a former (inhabited) planet, where the asteroid belt is now located.
A popular claim among pseudoscientists and conspiracy theorists in recent years is that Niburu will soon return and is on a collision course with Earth. Originally this was supposed to happen on May 15, 2003, but the fact that this date passed unnoticed and the popularity around the end of the cycle of the Mayan calendar on December 21, 2012, made this the new date. Scientifically, there is not a single observation, prediction, theory, or anything that could confirm the slightest part of this story. So no cause for concern!
