Best iOS Games of January 2019
Last month, we picked the top twenty games of 2018. Now a new year starts with a new stack of games to enjoy. We’ll be launching in January with a different kind of Angry Birds game, among other things. In addition, we swing, fly, shelter and fight. What are you going to play?
1. King Crusher
The makers of the excellent Drag’n’Boom are back with a cool roguelike. In King Crusher your goal is to defeat kings, and for that you go out into the world with a party. The most important thing in the game are the battles, and they are a lot of fun.
Your three characters, for example a warrior, wizard and archer, are in a three-by-three field. The enemy is above it and attacks you in different ways. Your goal is to dodge those attacks by quickly sliding your team, all the while dealing a pile of damage of course.
2. Angry Birds Dream Blast
The familiar angry birds are back in a new kind of game. While you still have to solve puzzles with exploding birds, you don’t have to throw them this time. The idea is that you make balls of the same color disappear by tapping on them, after which a bird appears. Do you detonate that bird, or do you wait until you can combine several birds for an extra large explosion?
3. Hang Line: Mountain Climber
Hang Line: Mountain Climber is a delightful swing game. In the game you are someone who is sent into the mountains to rescue people, but these places can only be reached by swinging through them. Be careful though, because your pendulum hook will not stick for long. The ice falls apart and rocks fall down. That’s why you have to keep moving constantly.
4. Fly THIS!
Remember Flight Control? In this cool old iOS game, your goal was to guide all kinds of planes and helicopters by drawing lines on the screen. Fly THIS! gives it its own twist. Your goal this time is to get passengers to their destination without crashing into another plane.
You also have to take the environment into account. Fly THIS! is a bit quieter than the chaotic source material and therefore nice to do in between. A little more challenge, however, would have been welcome.
5. Alien: Blackout
The successor to PC and console game Alien: Isolation will be released exclusively for smartphones. In this Alien: Blackout your goal is not to avoid the alien yourself, but to help others with it. The game’s creators clearly take a lot of inspiration from Friday Night at Freddy’s.
Through the cameras you look through the spaceship and send energy to doors and tell where people can go. If you are looking for an exciting game, Alien: Blackout is the right place for you.
