As a beta tester of iOS or macOS, you will be the first to receive the latest software from Apple. But once signed in, you will continue to receive beta updates. This is how you leave the macOS or iOS beta.
Exit macOS or iOS beta
The official versions of iOS 12 and macOS Mojave have now been released, but those who did not want to wait for that have undoubtedly registered as a beta tester. In the run-up to every major software update, Apple releases several public test versions, which you can use by signing up for the beta program.
You can always step out of this program, but it does require a few steps. Here’s how to leave the macOS or iOS beta program.
Exit iOS beta program
Have you fanatically tested the iOS 12 beta, but you don’t want to receive early trials anymore? Then go through the following steps.
- Open Settings and go to the ‘General’ menu;
- Scroll down and select ‘Profile’;
- Here you will find your configuration profile as a beta tester. Tap on ‘iOS Beta Software Profile’;
- Click on ‘Delete profile’. Next, you have to enter your passcode and press delete again.
From now on, you will no longer receive updates for beta software on your iOS device.
Exit macOS beta program
If you don’t want to be a beta tester now that macOS Mojave is finally out, exit the program as follows:
- Open System Preferences;
- Select the ‘Software Update’ menu
- Here you can see on the left that your Mac is in beta. Click on ‘Details’;
- A pop-up window will appear. Click here on ‘Restore Defaults’.

Sign out of Apple
If you have removed your beta profile from your iOS or macOS device, you are not yet out of Apple’s beta program. For example, you will still receive emails about the beta program and you will still be registered with Apple as a public tester.
To completely unsubscribe from the beta program, visit the Apple beta website via your iPhone, iPad or Mac. At the bottom of this page you can log in with your Apple ID and follow the steps to exit the program permanently.
If you want to test a beta version again in the future, you will have to register again. That can be done via this website.
Are you currently running a beta version of Apple’s software, or are you already running the iOS 12.1 beta? Don’t panic, you can also unsubscribe. The active test software will then remain active, but the next update you will receive is the regular public software update.
