Limit screen distance on an iPhone or iPad and protect your eyes

Since iOS 17 and iPados 17 you can limit the screen distance on an iPhone or iPad. A message appears on the screen automatically when it is too close to your eyes.

To protect your eyesight, the screen is then blocked and you can hide the message by placing the screen at a greater distance of your eyes. As soon as you enable the option you will find that you keep your iPhone or iPad too close too often.

Visual health

Myopia or myopia is the most common limitation of eyesight worldwide. To reduce the risk of myopia, the International Institute for Myopia recommends having children play outside at least 80 to 120 minutes a day. With Watchos 10, the Apple Watch Series 6, SE 2022 or newer can determine how much time is spent in daylight through the sensor for ambient light. You can view this information in the Health app on your iPhone or iPad.

Daylight also has other advantages for the physical and mental health of people of all ages. And children who do not have their own iPhone can link their Apple Watch with the iPhone of their parents through family configuration. They can then see how much time their children in daylight through ‘sharing’.
