Apple Watch podcast thanks to Overcast
Whether you’re going for a run, sitting in the garden, or for some other reason don’t have an iPhone with you, sometimes it can be useful to play a podcast directly on your Apple Watch. The built-in speaker is not good enough for music, but a talk show sounds fine on the watch.
To enable listening to a podcast, we need help from Overcast. This podcast app adds the feature with version 3.1 and is free for everyone to use. If you are already using Overcast, it is good to check that you are running the most recent version of the app.
Listening to an Apple Watch podcast: this is how you do it
- Open Overcast and choose the podcast you want to send to the Watch;
- Tap the hamburger menu;
- Choose ‘Send to Watch’;
- The podcast will appear in Overcast’s Apple Watch app after sending.
The podcast will then appear in the Downloads section of the app. Here you can see which episodes are currently being sent to your Apple Watch. This can take a while, so don’t forget to send a podcast to your Watch in time if you plan to leave the house without an iPhone.
