A vertical mouse definitely takes some getting used to, because you feel like clicking sideways instead of pressing down. But soon you don’t want anything else, because you immediately feel that your muscles are relieved. Your hand rests in its natural position on the mouse and you will notice that not only in your wrist and forearm, but up to and including your shoulder. It’s no different with the Logitech Lift. The mouse has a 57-degree inclination to fit seamlessly into your palm.

The Lift is intended for small to medium-sized hands, up to a maximum of 19 cm. Now the hand of this editor turns out to be exactly 19 cm, but that is actually a bit too big for the Lift. For this kind of coal shovel, Logitech recommends its 2018 MX Vertical mouse. There are just some differences between the two. Mainly that there is no left-handed version of the MX Vertical, but there is of the Lift. At least the black version. The white and pink Elevator are right-handed only.

Long breath and silent clicking

Another difference is that the MX Vertical is rechargeable and lasts four weeks on its internal Li-Po battery. The Lift uses a replaceable AA battery and lasts no less than two years. What also stands out in a positive sense is the silent click. Compared to, for example, the vertical Evoluent D mouse we normally use, the mouse buttons make a noticeably muffled sound. Nice if you also take the mouse with you to the office.

The Lift is too small for hands larger than 19 cm.

Incidentally, the Lift is also perfectly suitable for at home and on the road, because you can connect it to three different devices. If such a device does not have Bluetooth on board, you can also connect it to the USB receiver. In total, the mouse has six buttons and what each click does can be customized in the accompanying software. You do need the right program, and that takes a bit of searching.

Find the right software

The Lift doesn’t show up in the Logitech G Hub software (which we already had on our system because of a paired gaming keyboard) nor in the Logitech Options software (which we needed for yet another wireless mini keyboard from this brand. ).

New, Logitech Options+ is what you’re looking for. That software is currently in beta but will eventually replace the earlier Options program, so there is no longer any confusion about this.

Installing and pairing the mouse is hassle-free and the software offers a high degree of customizability. In addition to settings such as pointer speed and reverse scrolling or not, each button can be assigned a different action.

The nice thing is that this can differ per program. The preset profiles for, among others, the Chrome browser and Microsoft Teams help with this, so that in the latter, for example, you can quickly mute your microphone with a click of one of the buttons under your thumb.

You choose what each button does with the Options+ software – possibly per program.

Go with the Flow

The most advanced feature of the program is called Flow, which makes it possible to use the Lift (or any other supported Logitech mouse) on two or more devices at the same time. Very useful if, for example, you have a laptop running next to your desktop PC and want to use the same mouse on it without pressing the switch button every time.

Even transferring files between the two devices in this way is an option, by right-clicking copying them on one PC and pasting them on the other. This works as long as both computers are connected to the same network.

You have to settle for a slight delay when moving the cursor between the two screens. As a result, we sometimes lose the mouse pointer. It works just a little less smoothly than you are used to working on multiple monitors.

Conclusion

The Logitech Lift is a versatile mouse that fits comfortably in your hand, clicks silently and can easily be connected to multiple devices. You can also use it for a very long time on a single AA battery. A disadvantage is that people with larger hands cannot take advantage of it.

Hopefully a Large version of the Lift will come out one day, especially since the alternative (the MX Vertical) isn’t for left-handers. Apart from that, the Lift is definitely recommended; your arm muscles will thank you.
