It is possible to share an airtag permanently with other Apple users. In addition, you can also temporarily share Apple’s Tracker via a secure link. The biggest advantage of this is that more and more airlines also support this form of parts.
From the search Mijn-app it is possible to temporarily share the location of a lost airtag with other users and the airline. After sharing, the location of the airtag will be visible on the Find My website of Apple. In this way, for example, other users can detect your suitcase.
Solution for lost stuff
Have you lost stuff with an airtag or looking for my accessory? Then you can switch on the lost mode and use the search my app to find the airtag. So far, only owners and people with whom you had switched on the location sharing could detect the airtag.
Since iOS 18.2, iPados 18.2 and MacOS 15.2, Apple has changed this. You can now temporarily share the location of a lost airtag via the search my app. After sharing, the location of the airtag is visible on the Find My website of Apple, and others can help you search.

Sharing is stopped automatically
The function is only intended for lost objects that are connected to the Mijn-app search. You can easily and safely share the location of an airtag or an accessory of the ‘find my’ network with others, such as airlines.
Privacy and safety are important with ‘find my’. The shared location is automatically switched off as soon as the user and the object are back together, and the owner can also stop at any time. The link is automatically after seven days.
Share object location in search my app
- Open the search my app
- Navigate to the ‘Objects’ tab
- Select an item in the list
- Tap or click on ‘Share Object Location’
- Follow the steps on the screen

You can then share the link with other people. Recipients of the link get access to a website with an interactive map on which the location of the object is displayed. The website is automatically updated if a new location is known, and the time of the last update is displayed.
Do you want to permanently share the location of an airtag or find my accessory? Then you can link up to a maximum of five people to an item.
Contact details Share
If desired, you can also share contact details so that people who have found my object can contact you. Tap ‘Lost Object’ on ‘Show contact details’ and enter the desired information.
Collaboration with airlines
Has your suitcase or other luggage been lost, but can you find out the location using the airtag or other search my accessories? Then you can share the object link with airlines, including: Aer Lingus, Air Canada, Air New Zealand, Austrian Airlines, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Eurowings, Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch AirlinesLufthansa, Qantas, Singapore Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Turkish Airlines, United, Virgin Atlantic and Vueling. The airlines have confirmed that this form of location parts is included in their service to customers who want to find out -of -it -out luggage as quickly as possible. In the long run, even more airlines are added.

Apple has helped participating companies to apply systems with which ‘Share Item Location’ with due observance of privacy and safety can be implemented. This is used for the hundreds of thousands of Apple devices that many airlines already use. Access to the link is limited to a few people, and recipients must confirm their identity with the help of their Apple account or e-mail address to use the link.
