Last fall, Apple added the M4 Pro and M4 Max Chip to, among others, the MacBook Pro and Mac Mini. Later this year we can expect the M4 Ultra Processor and it will be super powerful
In the Power on newsletter from Mark Gurman You can read that Apple has plans to provide the Mac Studio and Mac Pro with an upgrade in 2025. In the first half of 2025, Apple may add the M4 Ultra to these power machines.
3nm manufacturing process
At the end of 2023, another first had caught, they brought the first 3-nanometer chips on the PC market. Just like the A17 Pro for iPhone 15 Pro (MAX), the M3 chip is designed using a 3NM manufacturing process. This is an advanced production technology that is used to make semiconductor chips. A 3nm process means that the transistor gate is only 3 nanometer wide, we explain what is so special about it.
The M4 Ultra will also get this advanced production technology, with the advantage drastically better performance, brand new GPU architecture, a faster CPU and Neural Engine, and support more central memory.

M4 Ultra-Chip specifications
Just like the previous versions, the Ultra will again contain the double number of components of the MAX version this year. We can probably expect the specifications below:
- Up to 32-Core CPU with 16 Performance Cores and 8 Efficiency Cores
- Up to 80 -Core GPU
- 32 – Core Neural Engine
- Ray tracing with hardware acceleration
- Four video encoding engines
- 800 GB/s Memory bandwidth
- Choice of up to 192 GB RAM memory
- choice of up to 8 TB storage
The Mac Studio may be the first Mac that will contain an M4 Ultra chip, followed by the Mac Pro. The first Mac with M4 Ultra is expected in the spring of 2025, the Mac Pro probably only in the summer. The M5 chip is planned at the end of 2025.
