According to current rumors, we can expect new Mac computers with Apple’s latest M4 chip in the fall of 2024. According to Mark Gurman from Bloomberg we can expect at least one Mac with a new design. Presumably it would be the Mac mini that gets a completely new design including M4 processor.
There is a good chance that the Mac mini will be one of the first to be equipped with an M4 and M4 Pro processor. At the moment, the Mac mini is already available with a Pro chip and this will also be the case in the future. Although the M4 chip is already available in the iPad Pro, the Pro and Max versions for Mac would mainly be used for advanced tasks and possibly for AI (Apple Intelligence).
New Mac mini coming in 2024
According to various rumors, Apple wants to release a new version of the Mac mini in 2024. An entry-level model with an M4 chip and an extra powerful variant with an M4 Pro chip. Only one question remains, will the new Mac mini also have a brand new design? Mark Gurman of Bloomberg thinks so.
Mac mini gets really mini
The current generation Mac Mini design has been around for a few years now. In fact, the last major changes were made in 2010. So it’s time for a new design. According to Mark Gurman, you could compare the Mac mini 2024 to the dimensions of an Apple TV, but much taller. This makes it a mini version of the Mac Studio and a truly small Mac. The enclosure is made of aluminum.
Connections for Pros
While the Mac mini will shrink in size, the ports will remain more or less the same. For example, Apple’s latest Mac Mini is said to include at least three USB-C ports (Thunderbolt 4), an HDMI port, and a power port. You may be able to get Gigabit Ethernet via the power cord and adapter, as you can on the 24-inch iMac.
Powerful performance
The Mac mini 2024 will of course get an Apple silicon processor, rumored to be an M4 and M4 Pro chip. The M4 chip features a 10-core CPU with 4 performance cores and 6 efficiency cores. It also uses a 10-core GPU, hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing, a 16-core Neural Engine, 120GB/s of memory bandwidth and 8GB of RAM as standard.
Mac mini availability
According to various sources, we can expect the new Mac mini later this year, possibly October. The current mini is sold with a starting price of € 719, it is likely that the price will be slightly higher, probably € 819.
