Although the MacBook Pro with M4 chip was recently announced, the first rumors about the successor are already starting to appear. In the newsletter from Mark Gurman it can be read that Apple has plans to provide the MacBook Pro with a thinner design.
In 2021, the design of the MacBook Pro was updated and became ‘thicker’ than its predecessor. According to the latest rumors, Apple would like to launch a MacBook Pro with a new design and OLED display in 2026 at the earliest.
MacBook Pro gets a thinner design
In 2021, the design of the MacBook Pro was updated and became ‘thicker’ than its predecessor. Still, I like the design, which is mainly due to the many connections and the ‘legs’ that place the MacBook stably on the surface and provide extra cooling.
However, Apple is said to be working on a new model where the design is thinner than the current generation. This makes the MacBook Pro lighter, which offers an extra advantage when you take it with you on the road.
It is not yet clear what changes Apple will make to the design of the MacBook Pro. The housing will become thinner again, but how that will work out is unknown. Will the Pro laptop soon look more like a MacBook Air, or the previous MacBook Pro design from 2020 without legs?
OLED for MacBook Pro
Mark Gurman is not the first person to report that the MacBook Pro will be equipped with an OLED display in the future. Just like the iPad Pro, the MacBook Pro may be equipped with an Ultra Retina XDR display. This display is the most advanced in the world and uses tandem OLED technology. This combines the light from two OLED panels, resulting in a fantastically clear image.
The advantage of an OLED display is that each pixel is individually illuminated. This creates better contrast and less motion delay in films, but especially in games. This makes the reaction speed much higher. Another advantage is that the brightness can be increased. Now this is 1000 nits as standard, and for HDR content a peak brightness of 1600 nits. With OLED this can be increased even more, which is ideal for a Pro computer.
Other expectations
- Faster M6, M6 Pro and M6 Max processor
- wifi 7
Availability
The MacBook Pro with a new design and OLED display is not expected until 2026 at the earliest. Most likely it also contains an M6 Pro or M6 Max processor. A MacBook Pro with M5 (Pro/Max) chip is expected next year, but don’t expect anything other than better specifications.
