Cherries are in season. But what to do with the many cores? Instead of throwing them in the trash, you can make a cherry stone pillow yourself. We’ll show you how to do it.
Cherry core pillows are wonderfully relaxing. Heated in the stove or the microwave, they donate pleasant warmth and relieve abdominal pain and tension. Placed in the fridge, they can also be used to cool bumps and insect bites.
Thanks to their sustainable, natural components, they are also a plastic -free alternative to heat bottles and cool packs. And best of all: you can easily make your own cherry stone pillow yourself.
Make cherry stone pillows yourself: you need that

The only challenge for the materials for a cherry stone pillow is not to “waste” the nuclei for cherry stone petting.
You need:
-
Pure cotton fabric in the desired size. Old fabric residues or pillow cases are particularly suitable here. But an old washing glove or a shirt sleeves can also be chopped.
-
Cherry nuclei, between 300 and 500 grams. Cook with water for ten minutes after eating to remove the remaining pulp. Then heat them in the oven at 90 degrees Celsius for an hour so that they dry well and do not start to mold. In addition, “blind passengers” are killed.
- a needle or sewing machine
- yarn
- Scissors
Sew homemade cherry stone pillows – a guide
- Cut the fabric right. The size is up to you, for example, 20 by 30 centimeters are a pleasant format. But you can also take a plate as a template and sew a round cherry stone pillow. Whatever you choose – you need two pieces of fabric in the same size.
- Place the two cut out fabric parts on the right to the right.
- Near three sides – with a seam allowance of two centimeters. If you have chosen a round pillow, just leave a place of ten centimeters open. In any case, there must be an opening that is big enough to fill the cherry nuclei.
- Turn the pillow cover to the right.
- Fill so many nuclei that it is pleasant for you. But it shouldn’t be too plump so that it still fits well and the cherry nuclei are movable.
- Close the pillow.
- Complete! Now your cherry stone pillow is ready for use.
Tip: Eat a lot of cherries in summer, collect kernels – and give away homemade cherry stone pillows for Christmas!
Warm the cherry stone pillow correctly
The cherry stone pillow can be warmed up both in the microwave, the oven and on the radiator.
- The fastest is in the microwave. With a maximum of 600 watts or the lowest level, you only need one to two minutes.
- In the oven, if it arises – the residual heat can be used; Otherwise it takes about ten minutes at 90 degrees Celsius and costs significantly more energy.
- Most of the time is needed on the radiator. Simply leave it permanently there in winter.
Incidentally, not only cherry stone pillows help with hard and tense muscles: you can solve tension with loosening and stretching exercises.
