The photos app is super lim and scans all your photos and videos while they are analyzed. This allows the user to search for photos with mountains, certain animals, etc. The people and peters are also recognized in a photo.
The faces on a photo are automatically analyzed and synchronized with iCloud. It is an automatic process that you have little influence on. Adding new people is a difficult job and attaching new photos is well hidden. We try to explain the function with the help of the manual below.
View people and faces in photos
- Open the photos app on your iPhone or iPad (iOS/iPados 18 or newer)
- Tap ‘Persons and Pets’
- Go to ‘Groups’
- Tap ‘Create’
- Select the desired persons
- Tap ‘Add’
Do you not see the ‘people and pets’ option? Then tap ‘Apply and change order’ at the bottom of the photos app and add the option to the overview.
For iOS 18 and iPados 18 you will find this in the ‘Albums’ tab. On an iPad you can immediately click on ‘people’ from iPados 14 in the navigation column.
Immediately you get an overview of all people you have added before or are automatically determined. By tapping a name, all photos of this person are displayed. All these albums are (if actively) synchronized with iCloud and are therefore visible on all your devices where iCloud photos are active. This means, when you add photos to a person, this is used everywhere.
Sort persons alphabetically
Put the album people in alphabetical order, open the album and tap the two arrows or ‘sorting’ at the top. Then choose ‘name’ or ‘custom order’. On a Mac you do this via the menu bar â–¸ View â–¸ Sort.
Confirm extra photos of an existing person
When your iPhone or iPad new photos of a person are recognized, they are automatically added to the existing album. If there is doubts, you must confirm this manually. To do this, open to the person’s album and tap the three balls. Choose the ‘confirm extra photos’ option, immediately you can attach or disconnect the found photos. It is important to do this regularly, because that makes the photos app smarter.
Add or link new person to an existing person
- Open the Photos Application
- Navigate to a photo where the new person can be seen
- Wipe the photo up for more information
When a face is recognized, you get to see a miniature of the face at the bottom of the photo with a question mark or not. Tap a new pop-up menu appears. Choose ‘Give this person a name’, a new window is opened. In the window you will find one or more photos again according to the results found. At the top you can link a name to the person. Enter a new name to add a new person.
In this way you can also an existing person Select and link to the photo. Tap ‘Add name’ and then fill the name of this person, you will find that the existing persons can also be selected in the list. iOS/iPados then immediately adds the photos to this person’s existing album.
Combine people in photos
Open the album ‘Persons’ in photos and tap the ‘Select’ button at the top. Now tap all albums of the same person. Then tap the three dots and then choose the ‘Add together’ option, all selected albums are now merged into one person.
Remove persons completely
It is not possible to completely remove people. You can, however, disconnect the name from a photo. Open the album people in photos and open a person. Then tap the three dots and then on ‘Change name and photos’. Display the name and tap ‘Ready’. You can then possibly hide the passenger album.
Change name of a person
Open the overview of all your people found and tap the album. The app now opens all the photos that this person is on, then tap the three dots and then on ‘Change name and photos’ to adjust them.
Mark people as a favorite or hide
In the album ‘Persons’ you have two different levels: your favorites and other people. Marking a person as a favorite is very easy. Go to the overview of all people, put your finger on the passenger album and wait a few moments, then tap the heart. You can also open the album and tap the three dots to mark a person as a favorite. You can undo the same way.
Change a person’s main photo (basic face)
Open photos â–¸ (albums) â–¸ Persons â–¸ Open the album that you want to change the main photo. Tap ‘Select’ above all results and choose the photo you want to set as a main photo. Then tap the partial button (square with arrow up) and choose the ‘Set as main photo’ for the option.
Delete incorrectly linked faces
When you see a photo in a person’s album who does not belong to this person, you can delete it from the album. Open this person’s album and tap ‘Select’, choose the photo or photos that do not belong to this person. Tap the three dots and choose ‘This is not [naam]. ‘ Please note, as soon as you activate selecting, a trash also appears in the button bar Using this button you can remove selected photos from your entire library.
Proper or remove a face manually
It is currently not Possibly to award a face to people manually. So you cannot decide for yourself who is in a photo through a tag. You can also not delete found people, people found under each photo will be visible when you wipe a photo in iOS/iPados.
Privacy
All results found are analyzed and processed locally on your device. They are then secures securely synchronized via iCloud. None of these data is shared with Apple or other parties.
