With iCloud Keychain, you can securely store your usernames, passwords, credit card information, and other sensitive information and use them anywhere on your Apple devices. When you log in to an app or website, you can automatically save the login details, or you can also add them manually.
So if you have just created a password or account and iCloud Keychain has not saved it, you can take action manually. The new data will automatically be synced with all your other Apple devices.
Add passwords to iCloud Keychain
In most cases, iOS, iPadOS, or macOS will automatically save credentials to iCloud Keychain when logging into a website or app. However, your username and/or password may not be saved. You can then choose to add these manually.
Manually via iPhone, iPad or Mac
- Open Passwords app (from iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia)
- Tap or click the plus button
- Fill in the requested information
- Tap ‘Save’ to save it

Are you using iOS 17, iPadOS 17 or older? Then you can add new login details via Settings ▸ Passwords ▸ plus button. On a Mac with macOS Sonoma or older, this can be done via  ▸ System Settings / System Preferences ▸ Passwords or via the Keychain app.
Website required
If you want to manually add a password to iCloud Keychain, mentioning a website is required. That can sometimes be difficult, especially if you are dealing with an app. It is best to add the name of the app followed by .app, for example: appletips.app.
