We regularly get asked by, especially new, iPhone and iPad users what the meaning of the line under the battery and WiFi symbol is.
You may not have noticed it before, but this line appears regularly on the lock screen and in the notification center. Does it indicate a specific status, is it related to the network or battery level? No, it is simply an indication that there is an option hidden behind these symbols.
Line under iPhone wifi symbol
As soon as you activate the lock screen of your iPhone or iPad, a line appears under the icons for Wi-Fi, network and battery. The line remains active even when using the notification center.
If you pay attention, the line will swipe down a bit when you activate the lock screen. This is exactly the intention. After all, the line indicates that something is hidden behind these symbols.

By swiping from top to bottom over the line (and the battery/wifi symbols) you open the control panel. This is also called the control center and can be seen in the image below. Via this option you can consult all kinds of shortcuts regarding the settings and apps on your iPhone or iPad.

So the line is nothing more than a visual reminder of the control panel and where to find it. The panel can be accessed not only from the lock screen, but also from the home screen and in apps once your iPhone or iPad is unlocked.
