Edge, Windows 10’s default browser, is coming to iOS as an app. The browser is currently in beta, but you can already download and use it.
Microsoft Edge on iOS
Microsoft has announced Edge for iOS on its website. The browser will be especially useful for people who have a Windows PC. The app can cooperate with Edge on the computer. With a function called ‘Continue on PC’ it is possible to send a tab from the app to the PC. This is useful if you need a large screen and keyboard, says Microsoft.
Incidentally, tabs are not automatically synchronized on both devices, as Chrome can, for example. Furthermore, the app has standard functionalities such as a special reading mode without distraction. You can also view the history and organize favorites.
Connecting systems
It’s an interesting move by Microsoft to bring its browser to iOS (and Android). It has been a while since Microsoft brought a browser to a platform other than its own. In recent years, the company has presented a lot of its own software on hardware from other manufacturers, from Office apps to voice assistant Cortana. It is therefore not surprising that Edge is next and it shows that Microsoft has confidence in the browser.
Microsoft CEO Joe Belfiore left in an interview with ZDNet know that most Windows 10 users have an Android or iOS phone. “With this app we can bring the computers and telephones together.”
Download the beta
Everyone is now eligible for the beta, all you need to do is provide your name and Apple ID. You do that on this website.
After you have entered the data, according to Microsoft, you will receive an email with follow-up steps within a day. This allows you to install the browser and use Edge on the iPhone via Apple TestFlight. That is the program that developers can use to test their apps with (up to 10,000) users. The app will be generally available later this year, but a precise date is not yet available.
