Minor changes in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 (#1)

iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 contain several major changes, new features and possibilities. Think of the brand new control panel, personalize home screen, new Photos app, extensions for calculator, passwords application and much more. In addition, iOS 18 contains a lot of small changes that benefit daily use.

Think of displaying reminders in Calendar, new iCloud overview, changing Siri name, silent mode for CarPlay and more. Below you will find the first part of even more small changes in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.

Categories in Photos expanded

The Photos app for iPhone and iPad has seen a major overhaul since iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. Apple has drastically changed the interface of the application, making it a single-page app with your photo library at the top and a large number of featured photos below that.

A small change is the extra categories for media types and others. Apple has expanded these considerably and this automatically sorts your photos by type. New are QR codes, Spatial, Recently modified, Illustrations, etc. You can find them at the bottom of the Photos app under ‘Media types’ and ‘Other’.

Search Recent Calls

You can now search the Recents tab in the Phone app on your iPhone and the FaceTime app on your iPad. This makes it easy to find out when you last called or FaceTimed someone. Scroll down the list to activate the search field.

Replace access screen buttons

Finally, we can replace the buttons on the lock screen! It was a much-requested wish from many iPhone users and now it’s here.

To start editing, place your finger on the lock screen, select Customize, then tap Lock Screen. Remove the current shortcut, such as Flashlight, then tap the plus button and choose a slider.

Camera timer extended

If you also want to be in a photo, you can use the self-timer. The operation is basically very simple: set the time, tap a camera button, run to the desired location and the photo is taken. From iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, you can choose 5 seconds in addition to 3 and 10 seconds.
