Minor changes in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 (#6)

iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 include several major changes, new features and capabilities. This includes the brand new control panel, personalize home screen, new Photos app, extensions for calculator, passwords application and much more. In addition, iOS 18 also contains a lot of small changes that benefit daily use.

This includes reminders in Calendar, new iCloud overview, changing Siri’s name, silent mode for CarPlay and more. Below you’ll find the first part of even more minor changes in iOS 18 and iPadOS 18.

Number badge for lock screen notification

Starting with iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1, multiple notifications on the Lock screen include a number badge near the app icon. This number indicates how many messages are still hidden behind the notification. The badge is only shown for notifications that are grouped.

The pile of notifications was always there, but you never knew exactly how many notifications were behind the notification. Thanks to this badge you can see it at a glance.

Bigger emojis

If you use the emoji keyboard, you may have noticed this since iOS 18.1. From now on, the emojis will be shown a bit larger in the overview. This gives you an even better view of expressions and details, directly from the keyboard. Unfortunately, the display cannot be adjusted. So do you think it’s too big? Then you can’t make them smaller.

Colored markers in notes

Do you want to clarify something in a note? Since iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia, you can highlight text with color. This way the most important parts are immediately noticeable. To do this, highlight the text in a note on your iPhone, iPad or Mac and tap/click the Aa button. Then choose a color for the pencil. The parts are shown in color.

Colored markers in notes

It has been the case for several years that links you send via the Messages app are displayed ‘rich’. This means that the simple link is replaced by formatted text and even an image is added if available. From iOS 18, iPadOS 18 and macOS 15, the link is immediately displayed in a rich format before you send it.
