Mother juice is a direct juice from first press, which is made from acidic fruits. This means that the fruits are only pressed once in the production of the juice. When pasteurized, the fruits are briefly heated to about 80 degrees – so the vitamins are largely preserved and the juices last longer.
No further ingredients such as sugar or water are added. In contrast to conventional juices, manufacturers either remove the dumbfights at all or only partially. Therefore, mother juices have no clear look. Only the liquid pressed from the fruits and their nutrients is included.
Mother juice really only consists of fruits and the fruit content is 100 percent. A study indicates that these mother juices are as healthy as fruit or vegetables. She also found that these juices can reduce the risk of falling ill with cancer, Alzheimer’s or cardiovascular disorders.
What is mother juice from from?

Particularly acidic fruits are suitable for the production of mother juice. These include:
- Aronia berries
- pomegranate
- Sanddorn
- Elderberries
- Black currants
- Blueberries

- Cranberries
- Cranberrys
Since mother juices do not contain any other ingredients, they are mostly acidic and more bitter than other juices. It doesn’t like everyone. You can drink mother juice diluted as a spritzer, add to a smoothie or put it over an ice cream.
By the way: No matter whether freshly pressed or as a direct juice – orange juice does not count as a mother juice. Only direct juices from particularly acidic fruits, such as the above varieties, are referred to as mother juice.
How does mother juice work?

Since mother juices are made of pressed fruits, their content of vitamins and secondary plant substances is very high. Depending on the variety, this includes, for example:
- Antioxidants
- Fiber
- Catechin
- Bitter substances
- Flavonoid
- The vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C and E
- Minerals such as phosphorus, magnesium and iron
Due to the high vitamin and mineral content, mother juice, in addition to the health advantages mentioned in the first paragraph, are said to have the following effects:
- It should strengthen the immune system through its ingredients.
- Help with iron deficiency, because due to the high vitamin C content, the body can better use iron.

- Mother juice made of cranberry can be preventive in urinary tract infections.
Buy mother juice or do it yourself

When buying, make sure that the mother juice has organic quality. You can see that by organic seals. This can make sure that the fruits were not treated with chemical-synthetic pesticides. Mother juice is available in drugstores, health food stores and online.
It is best to use mother’s juices whose ingredients are grown in Germany. These include, for example, sloe or elderberries. In contrast, garnet apples are not a domestic fruit and must first be imported to us, which is a lot of climate -damaging CO2 can cause.
You can also make mother’s juices yourself. A juice press or a slow juicer is suitable for this.
