An error causes a strange crackling sound to be heard from the right speaker on Chromebooks when playing audio. The bug has been noticed by Google that a solution is already being tested.
Chromebook Error
A lot of users complain about Google’s IssueTracker about a serious bug with the sound of Chromebooks. When they play sound in any way; be it in a video meeting, Spotify app or sound from YouTube videos, there is sometimes a crackling sound from the right speaker.
We write “sometimes” because users report that the error does not occur all the time, making it even more difficult to determine the cause. When you restart your Chromebook, the crackling sound goes away for a while, but it always comes back. You will only notice the audio problem if you play sound with the speakers, because there are no problems via bluetooth.
It is certainly not a hardware problem, as several users report that they have had their Chromebook speakers replaced under warranty, but without success. On the other hand, there are also users who have set their device to factory settings, but that did not solve the problem either. The error also affects all possible brands of Chromebooks: from ASUS to Acer and Lenovo. On the other hand, it was also discovered in both new and old devices.
Solution on the way
Google seems to have found the cause of the errors, because the company reports that a solution is already being tested. So we expect the fix to be part of one of an upcoming update. Google does not share information about the exact cause of the disturbing noise, but it is probably a driver problem, since the bug only occurs with speaker sound and then only with the right speaker.
