Netgear is launching the first Nighthawk router with Wi-Fi 7. The Netgear Nighthawk RS700S router features a powerful new antenna design and Wi-Fi speeds of up to 19 Gbps.

For years we have been praising Netgear’s network equipment, such as the Netgear mesh system Orbi RBK853 and the mobile router Nighthawk M6 Pro Mobile Router. No cheap solutions, but great devices. Netgear recently announced its first router with Wi-Fi 7 technology with the Nighthawk RS700S router. This new RS700S should provide a powerful network connection and should provide a very fast WiFi connection of up to 19 Gbps, doubling the speed of previous generations such as Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E.

WiFi 7
More and more devices are being connected to the Wi-Fi network, meaning the Wi-Fi requirements of modern homes are pushing the boundaries of current Wi-Fi standards. HD Zoom calls, 4K/8K video streaming, hybrid working, but also interactive real-time gaming and AR/VR applications can now be found in more and more households. Your WiFi connection therefore requires higher speeds, lower latency and greater capacity.
Netgear’s RS700S router, powered by Broadcom’s BCM6726/3 WiFi 7 System On a Chip (SOC), achieves speeds of up to 19 Gbps. The tri-band Wi-Fi 7 router, from the makers of tri-band technology, dramatically reduces latency for AR/VR gaming, 8K streaming and smooths UHD Zoom calls. The RS700S also has a 10Gb Internet port to support today’s fast Internet speeds, as well as one 10Gb and four 1Gb LAN ports for enhanced wired connections.

Design and performance
The Nighthawk RS700S router has a new, slim casing with powerful antennas that provide 360 degree coverage, allowing the router to support up to 200 devices simultaneously throughout the house. The 3D antenna design provides the best connection for all types of homes, from sprawling farmhouses to multi-storey apartment buildings. Carefully designed radio frequency circuitry sends maximum power to send Wi-Fi signals to the furthest range, up to 250 m². Thanks to the new, subtle appearance, the router also stands unobtrusively on a bookshelf or table top.
“With the launch of our Nighthawk RS700S router, we are leading the way in introducing the latest WiFi generation,” says Arend Karssies, Regional Manager Benelux & Nordics at Netgear. “The RS700S is built for the best performance. We’ve leveraged our decades of RF expertise to maximize the antenna’s reach within a subtle design that minimizes interruption and fits perfectly in any home.”

Technical specifications
– 320MHz high-capacity channels & 4K QAM – New, wide bandwidth means 2.4x the speed to your connected devices. Wi-Fi 7 smartphones and laptops can reach speeds of up to 5 Gbps.
– Multi-Link Operation – Uses multiple Wi-Fi bands simultaneously to improve the network, reduce latency, and ensure data is delivered at maximum speed.
– Lower latency – Enhances gaming and interactive online experiences, opening the door for immersive next-gen AR and VR.
– More capacity for data-intensive activities – Connect up to 200 devices, such as security cameras, smart home devices and speakers, while enjoying 4K/8K video streaming, online gaming and HD video conferencing.
– Multi-Gig speeds with 10GbE internet port – Use the 10 Gig internet port for cable and fiber plans up to 10Gbps. Interchangeable with any internet service provider.

Faster speeds and wide coverage via Nighthawk Mesh
While the RS700S routers are powerful on their own with fast speeds and wide coverage, they can be networked via Nighthawk Mesh to provide fast and stable Wi-Fi even in the largest homes. To maximize performance, the router can also be split into four separate networks. In addition to a main network and a guest network, users can create a priority network for low-latency applications such as streaming and gaming to ensure a lag-free experience without interruption from slower devices. To prevent other connected devices from being affected, it is possible to isolate smart home devices to the IoT network. These features will be available in future software releases, with the Mesh feature being added in early 2024.
The latest WiFi 7 router comes with one year of Netgear Armor, which automatically protects all connected devices on the network. Unlike traditional antivirus products, Armor is built into the router as a comprehensive security solution to monitor all internet activity. This protects all connected computers, security cameras, baby monitors and other IoT devices and identifies external threats and malicious outbound activity from IoT devices.

Price and availability
The Netgear Nighthawk WiFi 7 Tri-Band RS700S will be available first in the Netherlands from the end of October via Netgear.com/nl, and then at other retailers for a suggested retail price of 899.99 euros.
