New Nest Hub interface rolls out, but with critical flaw: Here's what you can do

The second generation of the Google Nest Hub suffers a serious bug that causes the device to reboot endlessly. The error is related to an update that Google is rolling out that will allow for a new version of the Nest Hub interface.

Google Nest Hub update

Good news and bad news for second-generation Google Nest Hub owners. Google’s latest smart display comes with an update that brings an improved interface, but for some of the users the update turned out to be a fiasco. Their smart display keeps rebooting, aka a bootloop called, and there is not a working solution for everyone.

The new interface should eventually roll out for both the first and second generations of the Nest Hub. The issue was first reported by users on the social news app reddit quoted, that writes 9To5Google

Below you can see the effect of the bootloop in a video. Most users get rid of the problem by unplugging the power cord and plugging it back in, but that’s not a solution for everyone. Google has not yet responded to the issue, nor is it known how many Nest Hub users are affected.

Interface improvements

The news of the bug somewhat overshadows the improvements that come with the new update, because then there are quite a few. Just like with a phone, you can now swipe down to view quick settings for your smart display. Furthermore, the date is now in the top left corner and on the right you will find the time.

The Nest Hub has a series of buttons in the quick settings that serve: the volume, brightness, turning Sleep Sensing on and off, Do not disturb, your alarms and general settings. Also similar to the interface of smartphones is the ability to swipe up to see an app drawer. This will give you a list of apps that work on the Nest Hub. For example, you can open Google Duo, Google Calendar, Spotify and the weather forecast.

The new interface for the Google Nest Hub is the second major change since the last update in Fall 2020 and the original interface of the Home Hub in 2018. Did you receive the update and did it come to you without any problems? Let us know in the comments at the bottom of this article.
