New on Netflix: December 2017

The Netflix offer is not fixed. New films and series are added every month and titles are regularly released. Every month we look ahead at the new offer on iPhoned and then pick the best for you. These can be older films and series that just appear on Netflix, or brand new titles. All you have to do is sit back and press ‘play’. 1. Dark

Dark is the new Netflix Original series from Germany. According to the first reports, the series is very similar to Stranger Things and should be the end-of-year hit of Netflix. The mysterious series is set in a small town in the German countryside. After the disappearance of two children, a search starts, in which supernatural things happen.

The series consists of ten episodes. The story spans several generations, involves several families and takes place in different times. In the corridors Dark is already called ‘the scariest Netflix series to date’.

2. The Crown

The successful series The Crown returns. The second season of the series about the British royal family takes place between 1955 and 1964. Winston Churchill has left and is succeeded by a whole battery of new prime ministers. That hardly provides any peace of mind. Princess Margaret is also experiencing something, she starts a new relationship with Lord Snowdon. She marries him and has children, but the relationship does not go smoothly. In short: plenty to do and many new faces in The Crown.

3. Easy

Another series that returns: Easy. In the first season of Easy, we followed other Chicago residents every episode. They showed how they dealt with love, sex, technology and culture. A lot of well-known names passed by in the series and that is no different in season 2. For example, Orlando Bloom, Dave Franco and Emily Ratajkowski participate in the comic series.

4. Bright

This month’s big Netflix movie is Bright. A sci-fi fantasy film starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton as LAPD agents. The Earth is populated next to people by all kinds of fantasy figures, such as orcs and elves. In fact, Joel Edgerton plays an orc and is thus unrecognizable in the film. The duo competes to defeat a great evil in the world.

5. Trollhunters

The animated (children’s) series Trollhunters from DreamWorks turned out to be a bull’s eye for Netflix last year. This year, the second part of the adventure that was conceived by filmmaker Guillermo del Toro will appear. In the new season, troll hunter Jim faces all kinds of new problems and must protect his friends from evil trolls.

Jim’s voice was done by the late Anton Yelchin. This promising young actor managed to complete all shooting before his death last year. The rest of the cast also has big names. What about Kelsey Grammer, Mark Hamill and Lena Headey.

6. Wormwood

A real documentary by filmmaker Errol Morris on Netflix this month. He previously made The Thin Blue Line and The Fog of War, among others. For Netflix, the master made a miniseries of four and a half hours (in six parts) about the mysterious death of an American scientist. He ended up in a secret Cold War project called MK Ultra.

This documentary series tells the true story surrounding this CIA case. Including LSD experiments and thought management.

7. Dave Chappelle: Equanimity

Dave Chappelle made a comeback earlier this year with a Netflix special. A brand new stand-up special will appear on the streaming service on New Year’s Eve. For when you want something different from the comedians who announce the year on television.
