The Photos app is getting a handy new feature on iPhone and iPad, making it easier to find lost photos in iOS 18.
New Photos Feature in iOS 18: Find Lost Photos
In iOS 18, the Photos app now has a ‘recovered’ album. This folder contains all photos that were not saved correctly, for example by third-party apps. You can find this folder under ‘Albums > Utilities’ in the ‘Photos’ app.
The folder with the lost photos will only appear if there are actually photos or videos that have been lost. If nothing is wrong, the folder will not be visible.
This new feature is likely related to a photo issue that surfaced in iOS 17.5.1, where some users were suddenly seeing old photos that they had long since deleted reappear in their Photos library. It went even further, with some second-hand iPhone owners seeing photos that belonged to the previous owner.
The new album for finding photos in iOS 18 should make sure that this problem can no longer happen. In addition, the album should also be an extra protection so that no more photos and videos disappear into limbo.
