According to Korean sources, the next iPad Air will have an OLED screen. The tablet would appear in 2022. The iPad Pro will make the switch to OLED displays in 2023.
Rumor: Next iPad Air will have OLED
The Elec claims to be aware of Apple’s plans with the iPad. The Korean website does not disclose who its sources are, so be careful.
According to The Elec, Apple will release a new iPad Air in 2022; the previous version appeared at the end of 2020. The biggest innovation is the switch to OLED. This type of display especially excels in a high color gamut, color saturation and black values.
The Korean publication writes that the iPad Air 2021 will have a 10.86-inch screen of OLED. This is about the same size as the 2020 iPad Air, which has a 10.9-inch display.
The Elec also claims that Apple will release two new iPad Pro tablets in 2023. These also seem to make the switch to OLED panels. The screen sizes would not be tinkered with: according to the Koreans, they remain 11 and 12.9 inches.
Striking move
If the information is correct, it would be a standout move by Apple. The company recently released the iPad Pro 2021. This tablet is the first iPad to have a mini-LED screen. This display type especially excels in showing contrasts.
Apple would also give the iPad Air of 2022 and iPad Pro of 2023 other types of OLED screens. According to The Elec, the former will receive a less high-quality display to keep the price down. The opposite is true for the 2023 iPad Pro.
The Elec claims that you can clearly see the difference between the two screens because the iPad Air 2022 gets larger bezels (black screen edges) than the iPad Pro that comes out a year later.

More about the iPad Air and iPad Pro
The Air is Apple’s ‘middle tablet’. In terms of price and functionality, it is between the entry-level model, the iPad (2020), and the much more expensive iPad Pro. The latest version was released at the end of 2020.
The iPad Pro was renewed at the beginning of this year and is the most expensive, and therefore most extensive tablet that Apple sells. The iPad Pro 2021 has, among other things, 5G internet, the same powerful processor as the iMac 2021 computer and therefore a mini-LED screen.
