NexusFile – Handy Windows Explorer Replacement

Are you tired of Windows Explorer or are you annoyed that you still have to make do with one navigation pane? With NexusFile you get a versatile alternative that can also operate alongside Explorer. Computer buffs will certainly recognize something of the popular Total Commander in it, but with a polished interface.

  • Pros
  • Dual Tab Navigation Pane
  • Handy color codes
  • Numerous hotkeys
  • Negatives
  • Requires some processing
  • No Explorer context menu

The NexusFile program window looks quite nice, with colorful text and icons on a dark background. At the very bottom you will find a function bar, just like with Total Commander. It is immediately noticeable that the app shows two navigation panes side by side by default, which makes operations such as copy and move a lot more convenient. But there are a lot of other tricks and functions.

Uncluttered

For example, the vertical bar between the two panes contains buttons to (de)select all content at once and to copy it to the folder in the other pane. Or you click on a button to link it to the current folder, so that from now on that folder can be reached with one mouse click. There are also buttons to sort the files by various criteria and to divide a navigation pane into columns. If two navigation panes are not enough, you can also arrange folders in separate tabs. Note that file names are colored differently depending on the extension. You decide for yourself which colors those should be. NexusFile therefore has a lot to offer to present disc content in a nice and clear manner.

The program window with the two navigation panels looks quite nice.

Additional Features

From the menu bar, you can also perform all kinds of operations on your file selections, such as thoroughly deleting them by shredding the data, or batch renaming files based on advanced criteria, including preview. Unlike Explorer, you are not limited to archiving in zip files here, because rar, 7z, alz and arj are also supported. There is also a tool available to compare two folders. So many options and most of them can also be controlled with – adjustable – shortcut keys. Press F12 to see them all (we counted more than 130).

Conclusion

NexusFile is a great replacement for Windows Explorer, especially in situations when you want to perform multiple or more complex operations on your folders or files, such as copying, renaming or archiving. If you’re willing to master a bunch of shortcuts, you probably won’t return to Explorer very often.

NexusFile has a lot of functions on board, which can almost all be controlled with the help of keyboard shortcuts.
