Night light Windows won’t turn on: now what?

Within the quick settings of Windows 10 and 11 you will find the night light. This part gives the screen a blue filter, which is less stressful for your eyes, especially in the evening. However, sometimes that night light doesn’t work. Then what can you do about it?

First of all, we can check the strength of the night light. If that strength is too low, you may not see the effect. Open the settings and then go to Display† Scroll to the small text Night light settingsunder the heading brightness and color† Slide the slider to the level that you can feel the effect and close the window.

Nightlight Making Windows Work

You may need to update your display drivers if the night light is not working. Open Start and open Device Manager, by typing that term. Go to the section for Display adapters and click with your right mouse button on the driver of your display. Check if an update is available. You can do this automatically, otherwise check the screen manufacturer’s website to see if there is an update available. You can then manually download and install it.

In the worst feeling you have to reinstall your graphics card driver. You do this in the same menu, by clicking the driver again with the right mouse button.

Another problem could be that the date and time settings are not set correctly. The nightlight may run on a schedule and need to be activated at specific times. If your computer doesn’t have the correct date and time settings, the feature won’t work when you want it to.

Open the settings and go to Time and language† Check if Set time automatically is on. If not, turn that feature on. If you want to set the time manually, turn that function off and press Set the date and time manually on Modify†

Finally, it doesn’t hurt to check if there might be an update available for Windows 10 or Windows 11. Maybe there is a bug that prevents the night light from working and Microsoft is aware of it. So, after updating, the problem may also disappear.

Open Settings again and go to Windows Update† You can immediately see whether an update is available or not, but you can manually check whether something is available by clicking Looking for updates to click. Is there an update? Then bring him in just to be sure.
