NOS Teletext app for iPhone or iPad: you can do this with it

NOS Teletext is and remains an important source of information. It looks a bit dated, with large pixels and primary colors. But it shows the latest news, weather or football scores, and still does it very well. With the free app you get Teletext on your iPhone or iPad, with some useful functions as a bonus.

This is how Teletext works for iOS

The NOS Teletext iOS app has a number of tricks that make it faster and easier to use than the traditional Teletext.

  • By swiping left or right you go to the previous or next page;
  • You can double tap to refresh the page;
  • Create shortcuts to your favorite page numbers. By clicking on the star icon at the top right, you can save the current page as a favorite. You can also give it its own name. For example, you can save Teletext 818 under the name ‘Football results’ and you always have it at hand;
  • You can also use a page that has been saved as a favorite as the home screen of the app. For example, by setting Teletext 101 as the start page, you immediately have the latest news on the screen when you open the app.

Download NOS Teletext for iOS

The NOS Teletext for iOS app can be downloaded for free in the App Store. Teletext is also available for those who do not want to install an app in the browser available. You only miss some useful functions that the app does have.

The Teletext app supports Split View. So if you have an iPad with at least iOS 11, you can keep the latest Teletext news on your screen while you are working on another app at the same time.

Small downside to the app is that it is provided with advertising by the STER. You can only choose not to see personalized advertisements, but unfortunately turning off the advertising is not possible.

NOS Teletext has been a good source of news since 1980

The charm of NOS Teletext is its simplicity. Unlike many other news apps, Teletext has no pictures, links, videos or other fuss. Looks like it was made in 1980. It is. That is the year that Teletext became available as an extra information channel on Dutch televisions.

In terms of appearance and functionality, hardly anything has changed since then. Yet many people still swear by Teletext as a news source. Which football fan has not ever used Teletext page 818 to keep an eye on all Eredivisie results. Or checked ‘the 101’ for the latest news.

Fortunately, the medium has moved a bit with the times. It has been available as an iOS app for over a decade. Since a few months it has been thoroughly renewed and made suitable for modern iPhones and iPads. In the form of a free app, it has therefore picked up some new tricks.
