Nvidia is known for exceptionally long update support for its Shield media players, and another major update is just around the corner. It concerns Nvidia Shield Experience 9 that is based on Android 11. This time there is a hitch.
Android 11 for Shield TV media players
Nvidia indicated a while ago that it wanted to skip Android 10 and immediately provide the Nvidia Shield TV and Shield TV Pro with Android 11. After that, the manufacturer started a beta program to test the Android version, and the recovery images of the update were published a few days ago. In addition to the new Android version, Nvidia Shield Experience 9 is expected to bring many improvements, including native controller support, the ability to search apps through the Google Assistant, low-latency media decoding, Google Play Instant, and more. The software also comes with the September security update.
The images were unfortunately removed by Nvidia shortly after publication. In the Google Play Developer Console (via XDA) it was still visible that all Shield devices would receive the update to Android 11. So not only the new Shield TV and the Pro version from 2019, but also the older models from 2017 and 2015. The model from 2015 came on the market with Android 5 and has since been equipped with Android 7, Android 8, and Android 9 That makes the 2015 Shield TV one of the best-supported Android devices of all time.

Availability update
The fact that Nvidia has removed the recovery images from its website again may have to do with problems in the software. We assume that these will be resolved in the foreseeable future, so that the rollout of Nvidia Shield Experience can start.
