Best iOS Games October 2020

1. iPhone game of the month: Genshin Impact

That you can play Genshin Impact for free feels bizarre. This game is so big and expansive, it can compete in quality against a top game like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch. The fact that the makers got inspiration from Zelda is not hidden. A lot feels the same, such as the huge world, style, combat system, the ability to cook and your stamina meter that deflates when you climb or swim.

But the game does enough of its own thing not to be put away as a complete copy. Genshin Impact follows more of a traditional RPG style to tell the story. In The Legend of Zelda you are thrown into a big world and it’s up to you to discover and conquer it. In Genshin Impact, your journey through the open world is more structured with clear quests and dungeons to increase your experience level, after which you can do story missions again.

Free to discover

Yet you are also free to explore the big world and attack enemies. You do this with different characters that you can switch with at any time. For example, the main characters have a sword and soon useful wind forces. The first other character you encounter uses a bow and arrow and has firepower.

The story of the game is about twins who travel between worlds. As soon as they enter the present world, a god stops them. You choose the boy or girl to play with, after which the other is captured by the god. It’s up to you to find your sister or brother again. You don’t do that alone, because you find more and more characters who each play in a different way.

gacha

Genshin Impact is a gacha-game. Gacha means as much as gambling. You get or pay some kind loot boxes containing random items, characters, and weapons. That sounds intense, but it’s great. The game is free to play and you are never bombarded with notifications to spend money like in other games. Of course it is made more and more attractive to you to do this.

One of the ways to deal with that is to use the items you have wisely. When you start the game you get a large collection of bonuses. With these items you can easily upgrade your characters and their weapons. But if you spend everything immediately, you will run into problems later.

The whole gacha system is something to be careful with, but you can spend countless hours in this crazy game without spending a dime. And with so much quality, including in graphics, the soundtrack, voice acting and so much more, there’s really no shame in spending a bit afterwards.

2. Unmemory

Unmemory offers a special way to experience a story. The makers call it a game you can read, and a book you can play. That’s exactly right. Unmemory plays like a book with interactive elements, but it goes so much further than text where you have to tap every now and then. You have to solve puzzles through the things you have just read, but also heard. You have to go back and forth sometimes, and even the music can give away hints.

This way, experience the story of someone who wakes up in an apartment with a dead woman in the bathtub. Due to amnesia, you have to figure out not only what happened, but also who you are.

3. FAR: Lone Sails

In a desolate, dead world, you have a huge machine in this game that helps you move forward. Your job is to keep this machine running. Through all kinds of buttons that you can press and levers that you can pull, you have to keep the engine running or sail further.

Very little is explained about this machine, but before the end of the story, you’ll be piloting this ship like a pro. Just don’t forget to go out every now and then to look for fuel.

4. Slash Quest (Apple Arcade)

Life isn’t easy when you’re a sword. Especially if your princess has been kidnapped and you don’t have the legs to find her. Fortunately, a child finds the sword, but it is a bit heavy for her. That means the controls in this game take a lot of getting used to, but that’s part of the fun. Slash Quest is an action game for kids. This makes the puzzles and battles very easy.

5. House Flipper: Home Renovation

Are you also working at home due to the corona crisis and do you now want to continue? Then you can try House Flipper game. Find the interior designer in you and renovate houses, then sell them for a profit. For that you have to clean up the mess, rearrange the furniture and of course do odd jobs.
