Even on vacation you sometimes want to listen to your own music or watch a movie / series. Since you don’t have internet everywhere, it is wise to find out and download this entertainment at home. Ideal for an offline vacation.
Offline vacation: download entertainment
Of course you want to do things on holiday that you don’t do at home, but sometimes you just want to sit back and watch a series or film, listen to your music or read a book. If you do all this digitally and you don’t have internet, then you’re screwed. Fortunately, many apps today offer the option to pre-download your entertainment so you can listen and watch them offline. Note: download your entertainment with a WiFi connection to save your mobile data.
Music: Apple Music and Spotify
Do you listen to a lot of music, or do you just want to take those few songs or that nice album with you on vacation? Then you can download them in Apple Music or Spotify for offline listening pleasure. This way you can listen to your favorite tunes at any time, even in the most remote locations.
In Apple Music, press the More button (three dots) next to the song or album you want to download. Then choose ‘Make available offline’. You do the same with playlists by clicking the More button below the playlist title.
Do you use Spotify and do you have a Premium subscription? Then you can download a maximum of 3,333 songs per device for offline listening. That’s quite a bit. You can make music available offline by pressing the slider at the top of an album or playlist next to ‘Download’. If you don’t have an internet connection, you can continue to listen to those albums and playlists.
Series and Movies: Netflix and Plex
Of course you don’t want to be without your favorite films and series. With Netflix it is easy to download it on your iPhone or iPad. You download series per episode. You do this by going to the series in the app, scrolling down and pressing the download arrow per episode.
You can download films by going to the film in the app and choosing ‘Download’ directly under the description on the right. You can find all your downloaded series and films under ‘Downloads’. Please note that these series and films will not be available indefinitely. So are you going on a long vacation? Then wait until the last moment to download. Another option is Plex. If you have a media server at home, you can connect via Plex and then save all its films and series locally on your iPhone or iPad.

Books: Kindle, Kobo and Audible
Of course it is also smart to download your books in advance. Whether you use an ereader or one of the apps on your iPhone, such as the Kindle app or the Kobo app. Downloading is very easy in those cases, because you only have to tap the book that you have purchased and it will be downloaded to your device.
You can then also read the books without an internet connection. In that case, your progress will of course not be synchronized with your other devices. You do need an internet connection for that. You can also download audiobooks via the Audible app or other audiobooks app, for example. Once downloaded, they can be listened to offline, if your battery allows it.
Podcasts and more
There are also other forms of entertainment that you can pre-download for hours of fun while on vacation. Consider downloading a series of podcasts in your favorite podcast app, or downloading games from the App Store. Every month we list the best new games in the App Store.
