Opera browser has WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger ‘built in’

Want to use WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and Telegram directly from your browser? This is very easy in the new version of the Opera Browser.

New Opera version has chat apps ‘built in’

Chances are, you use Google Chrome, Edge, or Safari on a daily basis to browse the web. Chrome is especially popular, with a market share of almost 50 percent. Opera follows a long way behind, despite the browser being available on many platforms and introducing interesting new features on a regular basis. Think of a built-in ad blocker and the possibility to make free and unlimited use of a VPN.

The most recent added feature comes from Opera’s experimental Neon browser and has now also found its way to the ‘normal’ version. If you install the latest version of Opera, the sidebar will show you not only your bookmarks, history and extensions, but also shortcuts to your favorite chat apps. By right-clicking you can choose which apps you want to use: WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger and / or Telegram.

By clicking on the relevant app, you can activate it and give it access to the camera and microphone of your (desktop) computer. In the case of WhatsApp, a QR code will appear on the screen, which you scan with the app on your iPhone (via ‘Settings> WhatsApp Web> Scan QR code’) to activate the web version of the app. With Facebook Messenger you log in with your email address / telephone number and password, and with Telegram you use your telephone number for this. Then you can easily use all three chat apps from the browser, without having to reach for your phone every time. All you have to do is switch to another browser.
