Overview of all devices that may support iOS 18 and iPadOS 18

Can your iPhone or iPad install the biggest update of 2024? That is the question. Apple has not yet officially announced iOS 18 and iPadOS 18. We do not yet know which devices will support the new software. It is expected that old iPhone and/or iPad models may be lost.

Rumors report that iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 will only be installed on iPhones and iPads that have an A12 chip or newer. On average, Apple devices receive major updates every 5 to 6 years. In recent years, older updates, such as iOS 15, have also been provided with security updates. For example, iOS 15 and iOS 16 were recently updated with bug fixes.

The new software will be announced in June during WWDC 2024 and can probably be installed this fall on all iPhone models with an A12 chip or newer. As a result, no models will be dropped this year.

Rumors report that a large number of iPad models can no longer be updated because an A12 chip or newer is required. This means that the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, 12.9-inch iPad Pro 2nd generation, iPad 6th and iPad 7th generation cannot be updated to iPadOS 18. Below is a complete overview.
