Signify, the parent company of Philips Hue, is constantly providing their lighting and app with new effects, but many users are unaware of them. The Hue scene gallery is regularly updated with new themes. You can also use special lighting effects for the Hue lamps.
Using the Philips Hue app you can provide the suitable lamps with effects including candles and a fireplace. This means that the lamps can flicker like a candle or simulate a cozy fireplace. We explain how you can activate the effects.
Activate Philips Hue effects
- Open the Philips Hue app (4.12.0 or newer)
- Go to a room or zone in the Hue app
- Navigate to a lamp and open it
- Then tap the three stars ✨
- Select the play button at ‘Candle’ or ‘Fireplace’
Immediately the effect will play until you change it or turn off the lamp. Of course, you can also provide multiple lamps with the same effect at once. You have to create a scene for this.
Tap the plus button above the lights and choose ‘Create custom scene’. Give the scene a name, for example fireplace. Now set the fireside effect and brightness for all lights and save the scene, then you can immediately activate it for all lights.

Support limited
Unfortunately, not all Philips Hue lamps support these effects. For example, if you still have the first generation of Hue, there is a chance that the effects will not work for this type of lamp. This message appears as soon as you want to select the effects. Click here to all supporting lights To view, lighting recently released by Signify naturally supports these effects.
