Philips Hue SpatialAware: Smart lights that really understand your room!

Available this spring for Philips Hue Bridge Pro users

Philips Hue introduces a revolutionary feature that takes your smart lighting to the next level: Hue SpatialAware. This innovation analyzes the layout of your room and the precise positions of your Hue lamps, so that light scenes are distributed more realistically and naturally, as if a professional lighting designer were optimizing your setup.

Thanks to augmented reality, you can easily scan your room with your iPhone or iPad via the Hue app, and the Bridge Pro ensures the intelligent distribution of colors and intensity across all lamps. This makes nature-inspired scenes like sunsets or misty lakes lifelike, perfect for Apple users looking to expand their HomeKit ecosystem.

Experience light scenes like never before

With Hue SpatialAware™ you can bring natural light scenes to life in your home. The Hue SpatialAware
scenes recreate realistic and comfortable lighting environments by understanding the location of each lamp in the room. Currently, colors from the preset scenes in the Scene Gallery of the Hue app are randomly distributed among the lamps in a room, without taking into account their relative positions.

With Hue SpatialAware scenes, it seems as if your Philips Hue setup was designed by a professional lighting designer: colors are intelligently distributed among all the lamps in the room to create the most natural look, tailored to their position in the room. This experience adds a new dimension to the smart home experience, making lighting scenes feel more natural and comfortable.

How does Hue SpatialAware work?

Hue SpatialAware uses AR technology to detect room layout and lamp positions, after which an algorithm intelligently distributes colors for the most natural lighting effects. It is compatible with around half of the remastered scenes in the Scene Gallery, such as ‘Lake Mist’ or ‘Savanna Sunset’, for example, where warm tones on one side of the room mimic the setting sun.

Once installation is complete, you can easily add more lights to your room at any time. The spatial model of the room is updated automatically, as is the distribution of the lighting scene.

Hue Bridge Pro required

The feature is exclusive to Bridge Pro users and is launching in the spring 2026. Introduced in September 2025, the Philips Hue Bridge Pro is the advanced successor to the traditional Hue Bridge and forms the core of a more comprehensive smart lighting system.

This powerful hub supports much higher capacity for lights, accessories and advanced features, perfect for anyone who wants to automate multiple rooms or zones without limitations – beyond the maximum capacity of the Bridge itself.

An important advantage is the possibility of multi-Bridge migration: users can now effortlessly transfer multiple old Bridges to one Bridge Pro, including all their scenes and settings.

Hue MotionAware

Another useful feature of the Bridge Pro is Hue MotionAware. This innovative technology transforms existing Hue lights into motion sensors without the need for additional hardware, such as physical sensors. The system measures fluctuations in Zigbee signals between 3 to 4 compatible lights in a room or zone, which occur when someone or something moves through the detection area.

This allows automations to be activated, such as turning on lights, dimming, activating scenes or sending security notifications. Through the Hue app, you can set up to 4 motion zones, adjust sensitivity and up to 10 time slots per day, and integrate with other Hue sensors or cameras for seamless automation, with optional notification subscriptions.

More innovations in 2026

In addition to SpatialAware, Hue Secure cameras will soon support Apple Home for live streams on Apple TV and notifications via the Home app (Q1 2026). The AI assistant is now able to create more complex automations, will soon offer support for Dutch and assist with problem solutions. Automations are also visually displayed in Rooms and Zones for easier management. Migrating multiple Hue Bridges to one Bridge Pro is now possible, without limitations other than the capacity of the Bridge.
