Phone not charging? You can do this

Phone not charging? You can do this

Have you put your iPhone or Android phone on the charger, but your device is not charging? Before you run to the store to buy a new phone, there are a few steps you can take that may solve the problem.

1. Check charging port

The charging port of your phone can quickly become dirty with dust, lint or food particles, causing the phone to stop charging. Shine a flashlight into the port to see if there is a lot of dirt in it, and use a toothpick, for example, to pick dust and lint out of the port. Do this carefully. Do not use a paper clip to avoid permanently damaging your phone’s port.

2. Try a different cable or adapter

If your phone’s port is clean then check if the charging cable or adapter is the problem by using a different one. A cable can quickly become damaged if you pull it out of your phone with too much force. Supports your phone wireless chargingthen you can try that too.

Where possible: check that your phone charges wirelessly.

3. Restart Phone

Sometimes software problems prevent your smartphone from charging. In such a case, restarting your phone may help.

4. Check for water damage

Most new phones are (splash) waterproof and continue to work after you drop your smartphone in water. But not always, for example if your phone has been in water for more than half an hour. Saltwater in particular is not good for your smartphone and can damage the charging port.

5. Replace Battery or Charging Port

If the problem is still not solved, you can send your device to a repairer as a last resort. He may find out that the battery or charging port has stopped working. Fortunately, you do not immediately need a new phone: a new battery or charging port will solve the problem. It’s not easy to replace it yourself, so you’ll need an expert to fix the problem for you. And of course there are costs.

Usually you quickly lose between 50 and 90 euros to replace a battery or charging port, depending on your device. However, in many cases this is a cheaper solution than a buy new smartphone†
