Place playlists in folders in Music for iPhone, iPad, and Mac

Apple’s Music app makes it easy to collect your favorite songs, albums, and playlists. Still, it can quickly become confusing when you’ve created dozens of playlists for different moods, artists or occasions. Fortunately, Apple makes it possible to group playlists into folders, so you can organize your music library clearly.

Place playlists in folders

By using folders in the Music app, you can collect multiple playlists from the same category, so you have a better overview. On the Mac it was already possible to create folders for playlists. Since iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 you can do this on an iPhone or iPad.

  • Open the Music app
  • Go to the tab ‘Library
  • Open ‘Playlists
  • Tap the plus button
  • Choose ‘New folder
  • Give the folder a name
  • Tap ‘Create‘.

Then you can add playlists to your folders. The easiest way to do this is to open a playlist in your library, then tap the three dots and choose ‘Move to‘. Choose the desired folder and move the playlist, repeat for all items.

Create folders on Mac

  • Open the Music app
  • Click on ‘Archive’ in the menu bar
  • Choose ‘New’
  • Click on ‘Playback Folder’

Repeat this for all folders you want to create. Then you can add playlists to your folders. Unlike the iPhone and iPad, on a Mac you can simply drag the playlists to the desired folder.
