Postponed again: New iPad Pro and iPad Air are not expected until May

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman Apple won’t release new iPad Pro and iPad Air models until May. He had previously predicted that we would see new iPads sometime in March or April, but now it appears that the release date has been postponed again.

It is almost certain that Apple will soon launch new iPad models. Apple has not launched a single new iPad in 2023, but the fact that no new ones have yet been released is remarkable, to say the least.

New iPads postponed

Initially, it was rumored that Apple would unveil new iPad models at the end of March. Now that the month is almost over, we can say with certainty that the new iPad Air and iPad Pro will not be announced this month. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has always said that the new tablets would not be expected until April, but an announcement at the end of March was possible.

Unfortunately, this is no longer the case, in fact, according to the current rumors Apple would only release the new iPad Pro with OLED screen and the brand new iPad Air in May.

Complex production

Gurman says Apple’s suppliers are now ramping up production of the new iPads. Although Apple initially planned to launch the iPads in March or early April, Gurman says the company is working on “finishing software for the new devices.” Gurman added that the OLED iPad Pro models also require “complex new manufacturing techniques,” contributing to the delay.

iPad expectations 2024

We expect to see several new and updated features when the new iPad Pros debut, including an M3 chip, a thinner chassis, a front landscape camera, a redesigned rear camera, and possibly MagSafe charging.

The most important innovation would be the OLED display for the 11-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro. A revamped Magic Keyboard and an updated Apple Pencil are expected to be released alongside the new iPad Pro models.

The iPad Air is the ‘cheaper’ brother of the 11-inch iPad Pro and has a similar design, but in happier colors and a single camera. Apple may want to expand the 6th generation of the iPad Air with a new screen size in the first quarter of 2024. In addition to 10.9-inch, the company also wants to offer a 12.9-inch version, an alternative to the large iPad Pro.

The iPad Air will still use LCD screen panels, but it may feature a new panel for better performance. The processor will also be upgraded to an M2 or M3 chip.

A new iPad mini and standard iPad are expected in the fall.
