When you buy a new Apple Watch, there will probably be some users who sell their old Apple Watch. Before you sell the Watch, there are a few steps that you should take.
Of course, it is important that all personal data and content is removed from your smart watch. You also need to disconnect the Watch from your iPhone, iCloud and Apple ID. Follow the steps below to ensure a successful sale.
Step 1: Back up your Apple Watch
Make a backup of your current Watch one last time, this way all settings, applications, etc. will be in the backup. You can then immediately put these back on your new Watch.
The Apple Watch backup is located in your iPhone backup, both via Finder/iTunes and iCloud. So you need to back up your iPhone to save everything on your Apple Watch.
When you unpair an Apple Watch, a backup of the smart watch is automatically created. If you would rather do this manually, you can do this manually via Institutions ▸ Your name ▸ iCloud ▸ iCloud Backup ▸ Back Up NowOf course, you can also make a backup via Finder or iTunes.
Step 2: Disconnect Apple Watch from your iPhone and Apple ID
- Open the Apple Watch app
- Navigate to the ‘My Watch’ tab
- Tap ‘All Apple Watches’
- Tap the i button next to your watch
- Select ‘Unpair Apple Watch’
Follow the on-screen steps to unpair your smartwatch from your iPhone. The watch will now be unpaired from your iPhone. In addition, activation lock and ‘Find My Watch’ will be disabled. Please note that this may take a few minutes. Once this is complete, you can completely erase the watch.
Step 3: Completely erase your Apple Watch
Now you can completely erase your Apple Watch. In most cases this happens immediately after unpairing as described in step 2. If this is not the case, you can completely erase the Watch via the Settings on the Apple Watch itself. Navigate to General ▸ Reset ▸ tap on ‘Erase all content and settings’. Follow the steps to erase everything. After this, the watch is completely erased and can be used as new without any personal data.
Step 4: Unlink Apple Watch from Apple ID
Log in with your account details on the Apple ID webpage and navigate to ‘devices’. Check if the device is still linked to your Apple ID. If so, open it and then click on ‘Remove from Account’ to permanently remove the device from iCloud and unlink it from your Apple ID.
Step 5: Clean your Apple Watch
It is a good idea to clean the Apple Watch so that it will look brand new again. If you use any protective film, it is advisable to remove it. This gives the impression that you want to hide something. How to clean Apple Watch bands and steel Apple Watch
You can clean Apple Watch sport bands and other bands with ‘magic sponges‘ which you can buy at your local drugstore or discounter. This will make your straps as good as new!
If you have a steel Apple Watch, you can also clean it with a Cape Cod polishing cloth. This will allow you to remove any scratches on the casing without damaging the Watch (be careful with the screen!).
Step 6: Where to sell?
