Prick a fork? These are the 4 best restaurant apps for your iPhone

Do you want to quickly prick a fork, pick up a sandwich or have an extensive dinner? We have listed the best restaurant apps for your iPhone.

The best restaurant apps for iPhone

The global outbreak of the coronavirus means restaurateurs have to be creative. Many are therefore (temporarily) converting their establishment for home delivery, while you can eat with a smaller group at other restaurants. But how do you find out which places serve a nice meal? Below we have listed some great restaurant apps for you.

1. TripAdvisor

TripAdvisor may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a restaurant app, but the travel guide is packed with great places to grab a bite to eat. The community behind it in particular comes in handy here. Thanks to the reviews you can always make an informed choice.

Furthermore, TripAdvisor has all the functions you can expect from a restaurant app in 2020. You can see what kind of cuisine a restaurant has, distinguish between places for breakfast/lunch/dinner and book a table directly. TripAdvisor also immediately indicates how much you have lost.

2. Open Table

Open Table is one of the most international restaurant apps. Not all Dutch establishments can be found there, but the offer is still sufficient. A nice addition is the flavor profile. By indicating whether the dishes were to your liking after a meal, Open Table is able to provide better and better taste suggestions.

It is of course also possible to book a table directly from your iPhone or iPad. Open Table takes the time into account, so it automatically serves coffee shops when you start the app around noon. You can also repeat reservations: ideal!

3. The Fork

Do you remember IENS? That app is now called The Fork and is part of TripAdvisor. The app especially stands out thanks to the complete range in the Netherlands. While many other restaurant apps from this list are mainly focused on foreign countries, The Fork is focused on our little country.

The app is very simple and lets you discover new places and book a table in no time. Also nice is the addition of Insider Restaurants: eateries that you would normally pass by, but are worth a visit. You can also reserve at many restaurants with a discount via The Fork.

4. The Last Table

The Dutch love a discount, and the makers of Het Laatste Tafeltje know that too. How could it be otherwise, this app shows which restaurants in the area still have a table left. This results in a win-win situation: the owner has his shop full while you dine at a discount.

The offer of Het Laatste Tafeltje differs per day. New offers are pouring in daily from local restaurants. It is then very easy to reserve a spot via the app. However, the filter options are less extensive than with other restaurant apps from this list.

Misfits: McDonalds and Apple Maps/Google Maps

Admittedly: there is no question of quiet dining at McDonalds. But, the well-known fast food chain is indeed a restaurant and also immensely popular. The Mac has long had its own app where you can view the menu, check the nearest restaurants and save your discount coupons.

Other misfits include Apple Maps and Google Maps. Both services primarily revolve around navigating from A to B, but have evolved over the years into a kind of travel guide. Are you in an unknown city? Open Apple Maps or Google Maps and type “restaurant” in the search box. Then you get an overview of nice, local establishments (ranked by price range).

You can also book a table directly at some eateries. Does this not work? Then you will at least be presented with a telephone number. And because you are already in a navigation app, driving there is so easy. Read the reviews beforehand, because then you can easily spot the less quality restaurants.

Eating well through your iPhone

Healthy and nutritious food is important for everyone. Fortunately, your iPhone can help you make wise choices. Take the Kies Ik Gezond app from the Nutrition Center for example. This tells you exactly how healthy products are in the supermarket. Do you really want to live healthy? Then use a calorie counter app. These programs ensure that you do not gain weight.
