The WhatsApp widget for iPhone is back with a vengeance. Since version 24.21.81 it is possible to use the shortcuts in a widget again. This way you can immediately open a conversation in the chat app.
Widgets for WhatsApp are not new, the chat service had already added the widget to iOS since 2016. However, this was banned with the arrival of iOS 18 because it was still an old widget. From now on, users can add the updated Widget again and benefit from new features.
Add WhatsApp widget
- First update WhatsApp to version 24.21.81 or newer
- Unlock your iPhone
- Go to the home screen
- Place your finger on the screen until the apps start to wiggle
- Tap ‘Edit’ above
- Choose ‘Add widget’
- Look for the WhatsApp widget
- Choose a desired format
- Tap ‘Add widget’
Place your finger on the widget during edit mode to choose a desired view. Tap Chat Type and choose a view you want. At the time of writing, you can choose between: Recent, Favorites, Pinned or Frequent.
Use widget for WhatsApp
Once you have added the widget for WhatsApp to the home screen, you can use it. Tap the shortcut in the widget to immediately open the chat conversation. This way you can quickly access your favorite users.
