Rabobank will soon replace Rabo Wallet for Google Pay [Exclusief] (Update)

Rabobank will soon support payments with Google Pay, according to the meta description of the Rabobank website in search engines. The function should serve as a replacement for the Rabo Wallet, its contactless payment service.

Rabobank is the next bank that will soon enable payments with Google Pay. The bank has not even announced this yet, but the news can already be read in the meta description of the Rabobank website, which is the short description in the search results:

“The Rabo Wallet is going to stop. From now on you can also pay mobile with Google Pay on your Android phone or smartwatch”, you can read. Androidworld reader Johan saw this text by chance when he was looking for more information about the new parking functions in the Rabobank app.

The information shows that Rabobank will eventually stop using its current Wallet for contactless payments and that it will opt for Google Pay instead. This is a payment service that, in addition to contactless payment, also makes payments on websites and in apps possible.

‘Still in development’

At the moment, the Wallet function still works and it is not yet possible to set up Google Pay with your Rabobank account. A spokesperson for Rabobank has informed Androidworld that support for Google Pay is indeed on the way and that support for the service is currently being worked on. Rabobank cannot yet say when the Google Pay functionality will be launched.

It is also expected that there will be a transition period during which the Wallet will continue to work for a while and customers can switch to Google Pay. Rabobank has also been providing support for Apple Pay, the payment solution for iOS devices. If Google Pay will soon also work for customers, the bank will have a fully-fledged alternative to its own Wallet function.
